Our June need of the month is 1,500 bars of soap, wash cloths, and hand towels. These supplies support our health care clinic’s preventive health education. Our community health promoter visits schools to educate students about the importance of various preventive health activities, including personal hygiene. From time to time, Common Hope distributes supplies to families to help them meet these kinds of basic needs. Your supply collections help Common Hope to do this work while saving thousands of dollars, which can be directed to other pressing program needs. Thank you! Help us reach this month’s goal!
World Bank renews endorsement of programs like Common Hope
April 17, 2009 – The World Bank announced today a renewed support for programs in Latin America “with different names but based on the same principle:to provide financial help and basic services to poor families on the condition that their children attend school.” The announcement cites tangible results for the children involved in these programs, including a sizeable rise in school attendance and decrease in drop-out rates. The World Bank warns that despite the clear results, these programs “must be sustained, and expanded further,” citing World Bank estimates that more than four million people could fall below the poverty line because of the recent financial crisis.
